NOTE: In March and April, the meetings will be held in the Town Hall
Conference Room. In May, the meetings will return to Piedmont Hall.
Cultural Commission Mission Statement
Established in 1993, the SCC's mission is to promote artistic and cultural activities within
the Town of Somers; to encourage development and participation in all activities; and to offer advice
with planning and coordination of events in Somers.
The SCC supports the Mary Drayton Visual Arts Scholarship
Fund for Somers High School Seniors who are going on to secondary education in the
visual arts.
In addition, the commission sponsors a summer Concerts on the
Common series, five outdoor concerts held on Thursday evenings for residents of
Somers and surrounding towns.
The Piedmont Art Show held in September and October, founded by the
SCC, is a juried show and sale of original works of art by regional artists. It has
established a reputation regionally as one of the best of its kind.
A Photography Show is held in April.
Although Somers is a comparatively small town, thanks to the Somers Cultural Commission
there is always something interesting taking place here.
You are cordially invited to participate in all activities. Both residents of Somers and
visitors are always welcome.

Monthly Meetings
Meetings are held on the second Monday of the month, however there is no meeting in July and often none in December. The meetings are open to the public and anyone interested is encouraged to attend. Meetings are held in Piedmont Hall at 7:00pm.
Piedmont Hall
The Cultural Commission is proud to be the primary tenant of Piedmont Hall. The Commission meets in the Hall the second Monday of every month at 7:00 and also holds most of its events in Piedmont.
The building was built in 1834 as a Methodist Church. It closed about 1900 and was damaged by fire in 1913. The R. H. Kibbe family purchased and restored the building and named it Piedmont Hall after the family home. The hall was used for school graduations, dances, meetings and suppers. In 1937, Piedmont Hall was donated to the Somers Congregational Church. It was sold in 1948 to Herbert and Priscilla Wells who ran it as a theater known as Somers Play House until 1959. It was then sold to Milton Hanos who donated it to the Town of Somers. For many years it served as the Somers Public Library.
Piedmont means foot of the mountain.
